Currently pursuing a BA degree in fashion design & technology womenswear at LCF, Lako also works on styling projects with fashion stylist Katie Burnett. ( Just a bit of really useful information thought I'd write)
Lako Bukia previewed her SS11 Surati collection for the first time at VFS. It was one of the shows 'to go to' so I thought I would.
The room was packed full of press & buyers in anticipation for the summer looks. Being born in Gorgia, Bukia took inspiration from her home surroundings, the soviet union and architecture. The collection also represented culture and religion. The clothes were well structured focusing on large shoulder emphasis and criss-cross panels. There was an element of vulnerability with soft draping from the neck and waist.
Colours were gentle ranging from pale pink, sheer navy blues and bold reds. The structure in the clothes were strong and matched the expressions of the models faces. Although this was probably due to the fact their hair was pulled back so tightly.
Fabrics included organza, silk, satin, crepe, chiffon, georgette and cotton. The accessories were all hand made in glass and various stones (collaborated with Georgian artist Alexandre Mikadza) which I was very impressed with. I do like good stone.
I thought the show collection was 'nice' but did not excite me to greatly.
